I like these two examples of coupled Ellipses.
Isn’t it odd how two people completely unknown to each other (which I assumed was the case) can have the same idea at the same time? Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibnitz -vso it is said - discovered Calculus at the same time (and entered upon an endless drama of accusations of theft, plagiarism and rancour)
I saw the Pink Ellipses first on television - a logo design for an over-50’s dating agency called ‘Our Time’; I thought it interesting and started looking into how one would devise a Geometry method to construct two ellipses with a common tangent uniting their two curves, so that one flows smoothly into the other. Then within a matter of days, I saw the 'GD' Twin Ellipses (a logo for ’Go-Daddy’ ready made websites) which intrigued me still further.
That prompted me to produce a ‘treatise’ of the ELLIPSE, setting down everything I knew about them ( a BIG subject, which involves far more things I DONT know than what I DO!) but that’s never been a good reason for not doing something has it? I might call it ‘The Private Life of the Ellipse’ - history, pictures, serious, frivolous etc etc.
It could (& SHOULD?) grow into the Private Lives of Squares, circles, triangles, polygons, Golden Ratio, Numbers . . . . . . In anticipation, I’ve already started - the biggest problem is going to be how I stop myself from getting distracted!
